  • Training I began my career in mental health after earning my B.Psych from the University of the Free State. My journey into psychology was driven by a deep curiosity about the human mind and a desire to support individuals in the pursuit of mental wellness. Over the years, I have worked with a diverse range of clients, from children and adolescents to adults, each with their unique stories and struggles. My career as a Mathematics educator started after receiving my PGCE. The decision to pursue a career in education followed after I did my internship as a school counsellor. Working as an educator and school counsellor enabled me to support learners on different levels. It was also here that I realised that there is a massive need for early intervention for learning barriers. I decided to venture into the world of Mind Moves and did my training to qualify as a Mind Moves development and learning specialist.

Welcome! My name is Micheleen van der Westhuizen, and I am a counsellor registered with the HPCSA with over 10 years of experience in the field of mental health and education. I am also a Mindmoves development and learning specialist. I am passionate about helping individuals navigate life’s challenges and achieve their fullest potential.

My Journey

My Approach

My approach is holistic and client centred. I believe in the power of a strong relationship and strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space where my clients can explore their thoughts and feelings and achieve their full potential.

Whether working on school readiness, learning barriers or emotional support, my approach is always goal driven and solution focused. Finding a common goal and working together to achieve that goal is my main priority, tailoring my methods to meet the specific needs of each client.
